Welcome to our website bringing you news of Fairtrade in Stockport.
Stockport became a Fairtrade borough
in 2003 and since then the Fairtrade Group has been working to raise
awareness of Fairtrade in the local area. We have produced a directory
of local venues where you can buy Fairtrade products. Click to download directory
Our website has been welcomed by Ann Coffey, MP for Stockport,
who says “Buying Fairtrade produce is an excellent way that we can
support developing countries and local communities in our everyday
lives. It means that farmers and they people who produce our goods get
a fair deal and enables them to build primary schools, crèches, social
and health care facilities.
I am, therefore, delighted that the Stockport Fairtrade Group
are being pro-active and launching this website, dedicated to fairtrade
and development issues. I know there are many people in Stockport that
feel passionately about this and will welcome such a resource. I hope
that it is also successful in educating those who know less about the
issues and encouraging them to become ‘fairtrade minded.’
We are very fortunate that for just a few pence extra at the
supermarket we can buy goods that are high quality and make a real
difference to those who really need it.” |
